About Seeing Through Red
This contemporary abstract painting is rendered in red and black. The pure emotion of saturated colour—a fiery red provides a dynamic backdrop for this graphic acrylic painting by Canadian interdisciplinary artist, Lynne Fernie. Expressive dashes of charcoal and black appear to dance across the canvas. Additional markings in turquoise, yellow, white and pink add intriguing detail and contrast. The shapes and characters in this work also appear to reference the elegant simplicity of Japanese calligraphy and primitive figurative imagery.
“(It’s) Painting is a visual language in the same sense as when a poet sits down, and they have some sort of feeling. They know there’s something to be said.” Lynne Fernie
