About Ceramic Bowl

This contemporary wall sculpture is a handmade ceramic bowl.

As a studio artist, Max Blankstein spent the early days of his career as an assistant to one of the preeminent ceramicists in Canada, Steven Heinemann. His artistic vision embraces creating sculptural objects handmade from clay.

This circular bowl has a raised rim and is divided into two realms-upper and lower -- distinguished by colour. The earthy palette of the natural clay colour in the upper half contrasts with the lower half in a dark gray. A square pattern in the center of the plate draws the viewer’s eye to its creamy white colour. Attractive lyrical markings carved into the surface of the entire piece are highlighted in black.

Max Blankstein was born in Winnipeg, Canada. He graduated from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, where he studied ceramics in 2009. Since then, he has been living and working as a studio artist in Toronto, Canada.
