This contemporary table top ceramic box is handmade in the shape of a triangle.

As a young artist, Max Blankstein had the skill and good fortune to work as an assistant in the studio of one of Canada’s preeminent ceramicists—Steven Heinemann. Blankstein’s own work in clay is hand built and explores ‘ideas of time, documentation and scale.’ This intriguing piece is geometric in form—a triangular ‘box’ with a lid—its natural coloured surface highly textured with cracks and indentations that reveal flecks of red clay and green.

Max Blankstein was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2009, he graduated from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan where he studied ceramics. Since then he has been living and working as a studio artist in Toronto.
