About Citrus With Bowl
A traditional still life is re-imagined in this delightful painting by Mel Davis. The Montreal-born artist creates abstract artwork that re-imagines traditionally familiar themes in a fresh, contemporary way. The colour palette in bright yellow, orange and green pops against the white, dark gray and teal background. Her work is reminiscent of the fabled French 20th-century artist Matisse known for his colourful and fluid style. Davis uses colour, texture, pattern and form—in her own uniquely engaging work.“I explore the space between what is familiar and what still can be mysterious. My work questions if we can find new and relevant areas of study in what is traditional.” Mel Davis
Mel Davis was born in Montreal and graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in 1998.
