In this lyrical abstract work by Mel Davis organic shapes and fluid lines intersect in a playful horizontal composition. Using form and colour-bright blue, red and black contrast with a fresh white background. The Montreal born artist paints objects found in a traditional still life and reimagines them in a contemporary, fun way. One of two in a series.
“I explore the space between what is familiar and what still can be mysterious. My work questions if we can find new and relevant areas of study in what is traditional.” – Mel Davis

A short study trip at the Slade School of Art in London was followed by a move to California where she acquired her MFA at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Davis still lives in the Bay area.
