Montreal born Mel Davis creates beautiful abstract compositions using traditional themes. In this piece, comprised of oil on linen on panel, a harmonious use of colour—bright white, burgundy, yellow and green appear in a tangle of fluid brush strokes on the right side. The same imagery on the left side is covered by a translucent wash of deep blue.
“My paintings investigate iconic themes in art such as landscape, the portrait, the interior. I am interested in how we as makers and viewers can find endless modes of description and emotional connection in these classical representations.” Mel Davis
