About Hound 2/8

This tabletop indoor figurative sculpture of animals is made of resin.

Award-winning sculptor Nicholas Crombach’s detailed and realistic figurative pieces often explore the complex relationship humans have with animals. This cast resin sculpture of a hound who has hunted a fox which then hunted a goose is patinated in indigo, black and white. Growing up on a dairy farm, Crombach observed that dynamic from a young age. His contemporary artwork is contemplative and provocative, cleverly imbued with a wry sense of humour.
This is one of a series Crombach created called ‘End of the Chase,’ a response to the 2014 hunting act passed in Britain designed to end the historic tradition of hunting with hounds. Edition two of eight.

“Our capacity to have a moral obligation is unique to humans and intuitively causes us to anthropomorphize and morally consider the world around us. This characteristic of our nature makes us paradoxically empathize with the animals we sacrifice while sustaining human life and culture.” Nicholas Crombach
