About Pheasant 2/8
This tabletop indoor figurative sculpture of a bird is made of resin. The provocative award-winning sculptures of Nicholas Crombach explore a narrative that challenges the complex dynamic of human and animal relationships. This figurine cast in resin is of a black and white pheasant posed on an indigo-coloured base.
This is one of a series Crombach created called ‘End of the Chase,’ a response to the 2014 hunting act passed in Britain designed to end the historic tradition of hunting with hounds. These multi-layered meanings and complex interpretations also include the idea of taxidermy. Edition two of eight.
“Our capacity to have a moral obligation is unique to humans and intuitively causes us to anthropomorphize and morally consider the world around us. This characteristic of our nature makes us paradoxically empathize with the animals we sacrifice while sustaining human life and culture.” Nicholas Crombach
