About Swarm
The provocative award-winning sculptures of Nicholas Crombach explore a narrative that challenges the complex dynamic of human and animal relationships. The Canadian artist creates engaging artwork that invites the viewer to reflect about their place in the natural world. Swarm is a visually compelling monumental arch-like form of monarch butterflies made from hand forged corten and stainless steel. Rendered as both abstract and somewhat realistic, some of the butterflies are whole; others are fragments of wings. All create a tangible sense of motion. Sunlight passes through the intricately cut patterns on each wing casting shadows that appear to animate the sculpture.
“Through this interplay, the sculpture evokes the dynamic energy of a swarm of butterflies - a gathering in flux.” Nicholas Crombach
