About Skirt 1/3

Pierre Trudeau, a former Canadian Prime Minister and an avid outdoorsman and canoeist once said, “Paddle a hundred miles in a canoe and you are already a child of nature.”

This playful piece by Roch Smith has taken that iconic image and created an imaginative table-top sculpture. Cast in shimmering bronze and mounted on wood, a bearded figure, barefoot and casually dressed, stands in the center of a canoe which appears to act like a skirt. Portaging anyone?

“Balanced and beautifully streamlined (the canoe) allows - in conjunction with the figures - a chance to play with symmetry and composition” Roch Smith
