About True North ed.1/3
This bronze figurative table top sculpture by Roch Smith features a maple leaf.Inventive and playful, the sculptural work of Canadian artist Roch Smith often conceals a serious theme. With this beautifully crafted sculpture, Smith appears to be making a subtle statement about his beloved home.
Smith is highly regarded for his imaginative, hand forged, meticulously detailed sculptures-- both large and small. Here, he returns to playing with scale to create a series of small sculptures with an iconic theme.
Smith’s dark bronze sculpture depicts a casually dressed male figure standing on a wooden base, looking upwards as if in contemplation, one arm raised behind his head. The figure is wearing jeans and a t-shirt which features a national symbol—the maple leaf, an homage to Canada. Edition of 3.
“ Over the years, it feels as though the figures I create have their own distinct personalities - I often think about the idea of identity and how we construct our identities and either allow or hide parts of who we are.” Roch Smith
