About Le Petit Gustavo
This contemporary figurative table top sculpture is made from papier mâché.For decades Paul Duval has reimagined the human form in charming sculptures beautifully handcrafted from papier mâché and wire. Duval’s series of indoor sculptures capture the human ‘condition’ in simple form. Each one possesses a visibly unique personality expressed as a gesture, a pose, and a mood that defines their character.
Gustavo is a young unadorned male figure handmade from golden-coloured papier mâché. He is sitting on a gray textured ‘rock’-like form, his head turned as if looking off into the distance—a contemplative pose. Both hands rest on his legs that dangle over the edge of the ‘rock.’
Duval says he tries to “give the impression that (his) sculptures are watching us.
