About Yellow Finch

This contemporary figurative mixed media composition of a bird is by Peter Hoffer.

A masterful Canadian artist, Peter Hoffer’s realistic exquisitely detailed artwork has been exhibited in major cities throughout the world. This is one in a series of ‘portraits’ he has created of birds—the yellow finch is a small bird native to southern Ontario.
Using mixed media on a panel, the yellow feathered bird sits on the branch of a tree in the center of the canvas. The graphic backdrop is in a vivid layered mixture of turquoise, pink, cranberry orange and pink.
Hoffer’s bird portraits are reminiscent of the tradition of 18th and 19th-century artists who often painted prized birds and animals.

"While we admire the beauty of the work, we are aware of a modern artist asking us to consider the process and the act of creation itself.“ Lynn Moore, Art Critic, Montreal Gazette
