This outdoor abstract figurative steel sculpture is by Robert Clarke-Ellis.
The engaging, theatrical and colourful work of Robert Clarke-Ellis has found an audience in both Canada and the U.S. Known for his simple, minimalist form, the Canadian artist uses steel to forge human-like forms that are painted in brilliant colours. Here, three slender figurative pieces stand together, rendered in a contemporary palette of bright orange, yellow, lime green, blue, purple and red.
Positioned as if leaning towards one another, the ‘figures’ appear to be in conversation. Clarke-Ellis is known for artwork that references common life events and invites the viewer to join in.
“The interaction (internal dialogue) between the sculpture and the spectator becomes at once personal and universal. This becomes the beginning for a new dialogue, event, or memory.” Clarke Ellis
Robert Clarke-Ellis acquired an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). He began his career as an instructor at NSCAD before completing a degree in education from Queen's University. His work has been exhibited and is held in private collections in both Canada and the U.S.
