This outdoor abstract figurative steel sculpture is by Robert Clarke Ellis.
The Canadian artist explores universal themes in his work that are inspired by life’s challenges, choices and seminal events. His graphic figurative work is forged from steel and powder-coated in vivid colours. This piece—a figure sitting on a stool-like pedestal with one knee raised and head bent appears to be deep in contemplation. The body of the figure is powder-coated in a deep blue paint; the oval-shaped head is a highly polished steel that naturally reflects light and its surroundings.
‘Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.’ Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) “The 'humanness' of the figures speaks to the viewer to elicit a memory.” Clarke-Ellis
Robert Clarke-Ellis acquired an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). He began his career as an instructor at NSCAD before completing a degree in education from Queen's University. His work has been exhibited and is held in private collections in both Canada and the U.S.
