Biography

“I am inspired to see works of art in contemporary settings. It elevates my senses and motivates me to visualize in my mind what I am attempting to achieve, to dare and explore new ways in moving towards new opportunities.” Rachel Ovadia

For more than twenty-five years, Rachel Ovadia has pursued an artistic practice.

Her early influences were both European and Asian cultures. Ovadia is particularly drawn to Spanish art, which she credits as playing a significant role in her becoming ‘more expressive and daring’ in her artwork. The work of Antoni Tapies, a famous Catalan abstract expressionist painter and sculptor, has inspired her own artistic journey.

Ovadia was born in Lithuania and studied art at the University of Vilnius, the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts, the Florence Art Academy and the University of Toronto.

A multidisciplinary contemporary artist, her extensive portfolio has explored and experimented with abstract form in various mediums, including painting, drawing, etching and sculpture. She is known for her philanthropic endeavours and her dedication to giving back to the communities she has lived in. Ovadia has also collaborated with distinguished designers in North America to create artwork that graces the interiors of several hotels, resorts, luxury residences and restaurants.

Rachel Ovadia has exhibited internationally, including galleries in Japan, China, London, Paris, Brussels, in Canada and the U.S. Her artwork can be found in both public and private collections. She currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.
