About Bellísimo
This contemporary large-scale abstract painting is rendered in hues of red, sienna and yellow.Rachel Ovadia has been exploring the world of abstract expressionism for more than twenty-five years. Her artwork has long been inspired by both Asian and Spanish cultures—perhaps evident here in her lyrical form and chosen colour palette. The stark white of the canvas provides a neutral backdrop for an elegant mix of expressive gestural brushstrokes, geometric shapes and curated lyrical markings. The palette—cream coloured passages and fine black calligraphic lines play against washes of deep red, sienna and bright yellow. Ovadia adds visible texture to the composition by combining acrylic paint, stone dust, encaustic and plaster. Bellísimo means ‘beautiful’ in Spanish.
“The process of painting is a phenomenally mysterious practice. Following prescribed formulas, one is guided by a course of action, in my case, however, the method is entirely experimental and resourceful and temporaneous.”
