About Blue Hour

This large contemporary abstract acrylic painting is inspired by nature.

Sandra Goldie’s artwork has earned praise from one of Quebec’s leading abstract painters. Leopold Plotek described Goldie’s latest series as “spacious and expressive, and genuinely individual.” Goldie approaches each piece in layers, beginning with a background color as a foundation. Drawing inspiration from organic forms and natural palettes, she works into this base—lifting and wiping paint to create subtle variations of light and shadow.
With Blue Hour, this horizontal composition is anchored by a rich, dark, gray-blue backdrop. Across the surface, she ‘draws’ with paint--expressive brushstrokes and calligraphic marks in black, aubergine, melon, golden yellow, and orange unfold in layered, muted tones. These forms suggest leaves, flowers, petals, and vines that appear to “dance” across the canvas. Sandra Goldie’s work feels alive with movement—something she attributes to her early exposure to the freeform rhythms of jazz. One of the series entitled “mingled yarn.”

“The phrase "mingled yarn" comes from William Shakespeare’s play All's Well That Ends Well (Act IV, Scene 3), in the line: "The web of our life is of a mingled yarn, the good and ill together. “ Sandra Goldie
