About Yellow Lily
This contemporary abstract acrylic painting features yellow lilies.Sandra Goldie’s artwork has been praised by one of Quebec’s leading abstract artists. Leopold Plotek described Goldie’s latest series as “spacious and expressive, and genuinely individual.” She approaches each piece in layers, beginning with a background colour as a foundation. Drawing inspiration from organic forms and natural palettes, she works into this base—lifting and wiping paint to create subtle variations of light and shadow. With Yellow Lily, the composition is anchored by a gray-blue backdrop. Across the surface, expressive brushstrokes and calligraphic marks in an earthy palette suggest flowers, leaves and petals in a pond. Aubergine, taupe, brown, black and burnt orange forms unfold in layered, muted tones. The soft yellow ‘lilies’ dotted throughout the colour field draw the eye. Goldie’s work feels alive with movement—something she attributes to her early exposure to the freeform rhythms of jazz. One of the series entitled “mingled yarn.”
“The phrase "mingled yarn" comes from William Shakespeare’s play All's Well That Ends Well (Act IV, Scene 3), in the line: "The web of our life is of a mingled yarn, the good and ill together. “ Sandra Goldie
Sandra Goldie pursued her dream of painting after a career as an interior designer by completing a BFA and graduating with distinction from Concordia University. While completing her degree, she opened a gallery for emerging artists in Montreal which she successfully grew for nearly a decade. During this time, the gallery participated in numerous art fairs, including Art Toronto. This second career as a gallerist followed her to the County and Oeno Gallery, where she continued to work with exceptional artists, both emerging and established. A decision to pursue a more personal career has put Goldie back in the studio. Her accumulated experiences from both the design world and the art world now influence her painting.
