About The Sun Set Her Pink

In this abstract landscape by Sharon Kelly, a glorious sunset ablaze on the horizon explodes in a mix of vibrant colours--pink, yellow, and turquoise. Ever present in the Canadian artist’s dreamy paintings is water featured at the bottom of the frame. For Kelly, every painting is a celebration of nature as a peaceful retreat. She is a proponent of the ‘Blue Mind’ movement that appreciates the meditative quality of water.

“I create semi-abstract seascape paintings using a combination of acrylics, charcoal, graphite & oil sticks. In this pursuit, I start with the writings of French Romantic poet Gerard de Nerval (1808-1855). Specifically, a poem titled L’Enfance, a depiction of the poet’s childhood. During the Romantic Period, landscape painting's primary function was to provide an escape into a natural world.” Sharon Kelly
