About Drawing in Space

Slender rings of flattened candy red steel are stacked into an elegant yet playful column by master sculptor Shayne Dark. Aptly titled, Drawing in Space, the work appears from various angles as light filled loops of color rising over nine feet into space.

The steel sculptures and wall works of Canadian artist Shayne Dark are often coated in eye-popping saturated pigments. Dark was the Artist in residence at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 2016, following a very successful residency at the Albright Knox and Buffalo Botanical garden in 2015 and a featured article on his work in Sculpture Magazine. At Art Basel, he was named one of the top ten artists to watch. Dark has received six Ontario Arts Council grants and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. His work may be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections including Queen’s University, the Canadian Embassy in Prague, the City of Ottawa, the Federal Communications Commission, New York.
