About Storm Surge Tondo Red
This contemporary red abstract wall sculpture is made from mixed media. For decades, Dark’s eclectic artwork has been inspired by the natural world that surrounds his home. His unique vision of using strong, raw materials and bold colour palettes has elevated his sculpture’s design and singled him out as a superb artist. This circular wall sculpture is created from layers of mixed media masterfully sculpted to create a highly textured surface. The almost baroque quality of this tondo is enhanced by its metallic red sheen. Dark's Storm Surge series is an inspired exploration of the line between painting and sculpture resulting in a surprising and disruptive abstraction.
“Experiencing the natural world will often give me a germ of an idea and then I run with it.” Shayne Dark
“Shayne Dark’s work results from a rhythmic and organic process involving ideas, feelings, images, formal play, and structural necessity. Every aspect of the process has the potential to hold meaning, to draw upon and focus our physical and perceptual experience of the world.” Helen Zenith, New Zones Gallery
