This is one in a series of lyrical abstract compositions Shireen Kamran created to remember the forced exodus of many people from the town of Suluk, Syria. Using acrylic paints and paper collage, shades of ochre, indigo, olive, and gray-blue contrast with black, clay and bright white. This piece, in form and colour, was influenced by fabled abstract artists, De Kooning, Rembrandt and Picasso. Kamran’s work also honours her Pakistani heritage, often referencing a form of Islamic mysticism called Sufi.

She received a BSc. degree from the University of Peshawer and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal. Her work is held in private collections in Canada and abroad.
