About Into The Woods: Sylvan II
This unique nature print by Susan Collett features a sketch of the woods. This beautiful, delicately detailed monoprint is reminiscent of Chinese landscape paintings. Susan Collett is inspired by the colours, textures and shapes found in nature. A gifted ceramicist, Collett originally studied printmaking at Central Tech High School in Toronto and continues to work in this medium today.
This sketch in ink of bare trees was pressed onto archival paper–just once, so each one is truly an original. (Hahnemuhle Paper dates back to the sixteenth century) After each printing, the copper plates are wiped clean, and a new image is used. The palette is a classic mix of black, gray and steel blue with golden highlights. One of a series that makes an attractive grouping.
“The images are not so much about the woods per se, but more of a psychological exploration.” Susan Collett
