The graceful, undulating shape of Susan Collett’s ceramic vessels are reminiscent of exquisite forms found in nature. Collett manipulates paper clay by hand—twisting, squeezing and shaping it—the layers and curved channels spiralling upwards create an elegant vessel with a lacey edge. Light shines through fragments of azure-blue glass—the same blue as the sea.
“The Labyrinths series contains light, letting it go through many organized channels and surface perforations.” Susan Collett
She graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's prestigious Agnes Gund Memorial Award. Collett is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery.
