About Lineage Arbour

Susan Collett is inspired by the colours, textures and shapes found in nature. A gifted ceramicist, Collett originally took printmaking at Central Tech High School in Toronto and continues to work in this medium today.

This beautiful, delicately detailed monoprint is reminiscent of Chinese landscape paintings. The tree image was initially carved into stitched copper and pressed onto archival paper. Paint is then applied to the copper plate. A second pressing added leaf detail and the soft, earthy palette of white, grey, ochre, moss green, heather highlighted by steel blue.

“Working with clay influences the printmaking, encouraging a sculptural approach. The plates composed of stitched and reconstructed industrial roofing copper gives a second reading of strength and organic tracings embossed into the paper, reaffirming perceptions of fragility and transience.” Susan Collett

She graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's prestigious Agnes Gund Memorial Award. Collett is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Susan Collett's work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.
