About Small Flattened Vessel in White & Taupe

Cloud white highlights neutral tones of taupe in this beautiful new glass vessel by
Canadian artist Susan Rankin. Rankin finds inspiration for her pieces in the forms and colours found in nature. Each vessel is meticulously created using layer upon layer of transparent glass. Hand drawn detailed markings on each piece add depth and contrast.

“With this new series of blown vessels, I am working with more transparent translucent colours, shards, glass threads and thread drawing. The resulting pieces have a history/story built into the surface, which encompass the optic qualities of glass and light.” Susan Rankin

She graduated with honors from Sheridan College, Oakville Ontario, in 1989 and received a three-year artist in residency at the Harbourfront Centre glass studio. Rankin has studied glass at the Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack School of Craft and Penland School of Craft in the U.S. She currently teaches glassblowing at the Haliburton School of the Arts, Haliburton Ontario. Rankin has exhibited extensively across Canada, the US, Belgium and Japan. Her pieces are held in private, corporate and public collections in Canada, the US and Belgium.
