A landscape, re-imagined in bold colours that contrast dark and light, this is the work of Sylvain Louis-Seize. As a young boy, the Montreal artist began painting on his neighbourhood sidewalks. The early exposure to graffiti art remains an influence in his work. This landscape captures a view of the Tuscan countryside rendered in bright yellow, turquoise and white played against the dark abstracted forms of trees and fields. Subtle calligraphic markings in black add intriguing detail to the narrative. The word, “#LAND” is written on the painting, an homage, perhaps to his street art origins.
“Art is subjective. It has to be. It loses its point and its authenticity if it isn’t. Perspective is very first person.” Sylvain Louis-Seize
His artworks including large scale commissions are held in private and corporate collections in the UK, the US, Canada, and Europe. A catalogue "Sylvain Louis-Seize, "Resolution" (2019) is available.
