About Gen-Form Study No.7

W.W. Hung created this contemporary abstract indoor sculpture from resin.
This elegant sculpture was made using 3-D modelling software and computer printing. Study No. 7’s organic form is designed to emulate complex patterns found in nature. It is made from resin in a delicate celadon colour that complements its graceful dynamic shape. The Canadian sculptor’s masterful artistic practice has been focused primarily on figurative work following more traditional techniques of sculpting. But using precise mathematical equations Hung was able to manipulate forms on the computer to design this new series. The works are an inspired synthesis of art, mathematics, technology, and the natural world. Edition 1 of 25.

“Perhaps it is partly due to my background as an architect that I have always approached sculpture, first and foremost, as form. As such, the distinction between the figurative and the abstract is almost secondary, and I am able to transition between the two with ease.” W. W. Hung

Hung studied architecture at the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1997. After graduation, Hung relocated to New York City and practiced architecture there and in Toronto for a number of years. In 2004, he became a member of the American Institute of Architects. He also began creating sculptural works in a unique combination of the figurative and the abstract.
In 2015, Hung joined the Sculptors Society of Canada. Hung’s work is held in private collections in Canada, France and the US.
This is edition 1/25.
