About Body Motion Target #1

With its bold form and striking black palette, this large circular painting by Yvonne Lammerich makes a dramatic contemporary statement. The actual scale of the circle is related to the artist’s body—who created this image by extending her arms, paintbrush in hand and moving across the surface of the canvas. A close examination of this work reveals circles within circles emanating from a defined target. Lammerich is known for her innovative, interpretative abstracted work that has chartered a unique path on both the national and international art scene. One of a limited series.

“Though neither painting is really only black or white, we will hold them in our mind as such, they address both the need and limits of definition.“ Yvonne Lammerich

“…her pictorial space emanates from the body complex as multivalent emotive states linked by their common centre. She identifies this with the notion of the fold or folding as an unremitting flow of transparency and reflections of image into text and back again." James Campbell, Galerie Clara Maria Sels, Düsseldorf.
