CHROMA QUEST

1 February 2025 — 30 March 2025

Paul Gaugin called colour the ‘language of dreams’—a mysterious and powerful communication tool. Simply stated, colour is light reflected by an object.

Chroma is the intensity, brilliance or purity of a colour that artists use to evoke emotion or a mood, to tell a story--even to alter behaviour.  Red excites, blue projects calm, yellow radiates warmth.

In this brilliant exhibition, each of our fine contemporary artists have experienced their own quest to unlock the power of colour to help them convey their own unique narrative—to show us how they see the world.

“To fully experience (my) paintings the viewer needs to taste the colour, hear and feel the rhythms, the mood, the music.”  Burton Kramer

Thousands of years ago artists created the first pigments from soil, animal fat, burnt charcoal and chalk. Artists have always used colours—light or dark to help ignite a different feeling in their work. The full spectrum of colours—the range of warm and cool hues is only limited by imagination.

“Colour ….has a dual (and magical) identity as an elusive, optical sensation and physical, material substance…”  Milly Ristvedt

“Using glazes and layering the paint over and over again, I seek an intense colour experience.”  Pat Service

A celebration of colour—CHROMA QUEST opens on Saturday, February 1st and please join us for the opening reception from 2-4pm.
