Form. Figure. Gesture.

1 December 2018 — 27 January 2019

Oeno Gallery's Holiday season exhibition brings together a select group of seven artists in two distinct spaces - four sculptors share a space that, like a story within a story, offers a bold presence within a larger poetic narrative. Elegant granite forms by sculptor Jeremy Guy - in Heron and Pirouette - echo the lines and movement in the work of John Paul Robinson. Robinson's wall sculptures consist of brilliant intersecting glass arcs in amber and red that sit in bold contrast to the glass frit wall reliefs of Cheryl Wilson-Smith. Her textured pieces evoke fragility through material and yet strength in their subject of moving ice. New to the gallery is the work of Rod Mireau. In his Measuring Waves, rings of ash wood are wrapped in a ribbon of plywood in each of the 10 parts to the work. Each piece in this contemplative wall sculpture is patinated with marble dust, pigment and ink to create rich polished surfaces. Framing these sculptures is a curated exhibition of new paintings by Jennifer Hornyak, Scott Pattinson and Peter Hoffer. Hornyak is known for her still life and figurative paintings rendered in vivid colours with rich textured surfaces. Colour links these works with the dynamic abstract paintings of Scott Pattinson and the portraits by Peter Hoffer. Gifts for the Holiday Season ranging in price from $25. to $400. include books by Charles Pachter, P. Roch Smith's miniature bronzes, Maud Lewis pillows, Roger Wood's steam punk inspired functional clock sculptures, Mariel Waddell's sparkling glass bowls and Sue Rankin's glass vases.
