Art, Censorship, and Queer Visibility: Carlyn Moulton and Deborah Root on The Shaun Proulx Show

Podcast v2

This Pride Month, Oeno Gallery’s founder Carlyn Moulton and artist Deborah Root were featured guests on The Shaun Proulx Show for a powerful conversation about art, censorship, and queer visibility.

In the episode, Deborah discusses her recent invitation to exhibit at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington D.C.—an opportunity that was ultimately rescinded before the show could open. Though the exhibition wasn’t explicitly queer-themed, it included a number of LGBTQ+ and Black artists, and was quietly shelved in what Root and Moulton describe as a troubling act of cultural erasure.

Together, Carlyn and Deborah speak candidly with host Shaun Proulx about the rising challenges queer artists face, the responsibility of galleries to advocate for freedom of expression, and the vital role of art in resisting regressive political tides.
