Internationally Acclaimed Artist Tim Okamura Joins Oeno Gallery
Oeno Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of renowned contemporary artist Tim Okamura, whose powerful portrait paintings have earned international recognition for their striking fusion of realism and cultural storytelling.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, and based in Montreal, Okamura has developed a distinctive visual language that combines traditional oil painting with collage, mixed media, graffiti-inspired mark making, and contemporary urban aesthetics. His portraits explore themes of identity, representation, community, and resilience, creating works that are both visually compelling and socially relevant.
For more than two decades, Okamura has challenged conventional approaches to portraiture. His paintings celebrate individuality while addressing broader conversations surrounding race, gender, culture, and belonging. Through richly layered surfaces and remarkable technical skill, he creates images that invite viewers to look beyond appearances and engage with the lived experiences of his subjects.
Classical portraiture and contemporary street culture coexist within the same canvas. Precision and spontaneity, realism and abstraction, beauty and social commentary are woven together through energetic brushwork, collage elements, and vibrant colour. The result is a body of work that feels both timeless and unmistakably of the present moment.
