Earlier this year, sculptor Paula Murray returned from a 3-month trip to Jingdezhen, China where she completed an all-expenses-paid residency at the International Studio. Jingdezhen is referred to as ‘The Porcelain Capital’ due to its important role in the porcelain industry and because of this, it attracts ceramic artists throughout China and around the world to come visit.

During the residency, Paula Murray worked in a state-of-the-art studio alongside twenty other ceramic artists, both local and other visitors on residency. During this time, Paula was able to learn and become inspired by the other artists and experience a very different culture from what she had known.

A film crew from Beijing came to the studio where Paula was working at and filmed a short documentary of Paula's experience in Jingdezhen. Take a look below.

"I have such fond memories of that day- trying to be relaxed on camera, smiling my way through the language barrier. Our common humanity was what sticks in my mind." - Paula Murray
Paula Murray's work is on display in the current gallery exhibition, Summer of '24: Experience Art
