Manif d’art 9 is a unique winter biennial in Quebec City presenting the indoor and outdoor art of 20 international and Canadian artists. This year as part of the biennial, Shayne Dark will exhibit a work of outdoor sculpture in the Parc de L’Esplanade in Old Quebec from February 16 to April 21, 2019.
Created in collaboration with the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), the Manif d’art central exhibition will be hosted in the Pierre Lassonde Pavilio, MNBAQ, while outdoor work is curated across the city.
The theme of this ninth installment of the Biennial is Small Between the Stars, Large Against the Sky is curated by the Jonathan Watkins, director at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. The theme raises fundamental questions about our relationships to nature, the environment, each other and our future on earth.
At the biennial, Dark will exhibit Free Form in Blue (2012) which consists of driftwood found in nature, patinated in an eye-popping indigo-blue and assembled into a dynamic composition. The work may be suspended within the branches of trees.
Oeno Gallery has many works available by Dark including the outdoor sculpture Intersect (2018). This large sculpture consists of six tapered steel verticals in poppy red curated in a dynamic composition. (pictured)
