Biography

Born in Barmouth, North Wales, Adrian Dingle came to Canada with his parents in 1914. In 1931 Dingle studied art under the instruction of J.W. Beatty at the summer school of the Ontario College of Art, Toronto. Shortly thereafter Dingle went to England where he worked as a commercial artist to supplement his career as a painter, studying at the Goldsmith’s College of Art, London during his free time. He returned to Canada where he began to exhibit regularly with the OSA and the T. Eaton Company’s Fine Art Gallery. As a painter he was known for his landscapes, marine subjects, figure studies and portraits, he was also a versatile illustrator and cover artist. He died in Toronto in 1974.  Dingle’s work is represented in the following collections: the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, the London Regional Art & Historical Museum, Ontario, and the following banks, CIBC, BNS, RBC; Dom. Foundries & Steel Ltd.
