About Crown Jewels (Hummingbirds in Flight)
The magical and graceful flight of two hummingbirds is brought to life in this delightful stainless steel sculpture by Amos Robinson. The American sculptor is recognized internationally for his contemporary kinetic sculptures that are beautifully rendered from forged metal. The elegant form of this sculpture is enhanced by the use of arcs—three appear to act like branches on a tree that can move independently with the wind. The hummingbirds are caught hovering—their wings rapidly beating as they feed on the nectar of a flower. The steel is polished to a bright sheen that reflects sunlight and the landscape around it.Dimensions: 56″ spin radius, Hummingbird 8″ wingspan, 7.25″ beak to tail. Price in USD. Available on commission. Please allow 4-6 weeks for completion before delivery.
“I’m not looking to re-create nature or life. I have tried to take whatever I’m looking at and break it down into a simple form. I love a simple arc. If you look at most things that I do, there’s a continuity of the simple arc through almost everything.” Amos Robinson
Steven Edward Robinson (Amos is a nickname) was born in New York City and is a self-taught artist. In an earlier career, Robinson did metal work developing industrial equipment. A lifelong interest in restoring classic cars and motorcycles also helped hone his mechanical skills. Since he began creating kinetic sculptures in 2005, he has completed almost fifty public art installations. His work is also held in private collections worldwide including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Europe, Australia and China.
