About Asagi Maeda
Asagi Maeda was born into a family steeped in the pearl business. Her grandfather made cultured pearls and her mother made them into jewelry and sold them. In her unique sculpted jewelry, Maeda merges this history with her love of fine handicraft and narrative. Personal stories, events and dreams inspire her designs.
Maeda studied sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University working with marble and granite. After graduation in 2000, she studied gemology in New York at the Gemological Institute of America where she received a Graduate Gemologist Diploma (2001). Maeda continued studies in jewelry making at the Fashion Institute of Technology, also in New York City.
Maeda maintains a jewelry studio in Tokyo. She has been a part-time lecturer at Jyoshibi University of Art and Design since 2007.
