About Haptic Series Pod No 29
This contemporary ceramic vessel is hand-built.The eclectic work of Bill Greaves is distinguished by organic shapes, rich saturated colour and visible texture. This series of small vessels are oval in form. Hand coiled, the clay is scraped, glazes are washed and then dry-brushed to build detail and texture. The sienna colour of the opening in each clay pod contrasts with the overall colour of black detail on a rhubarb coloured background. The remarkable visible texture of each piece is created by scraping and carving the surface. Layers of glaze add an attractive sheen.
“I called the series ‘haptic,’ which literally means sense of touch, as I really want people to touch my work. I want people to feel the textures.” Bill Greaves
William Greaves received a Master of Architecture from Yale University and was a practising architect in NYC for several years before he became an artist full time.
He studied ceramics at Alex Yeung Studio in Toronto from 2017-2019. His studio was set up in 2020 and is near Consecon, Ontario. His work is shown here in Ontario and in NYC.
