Biography

Bill Greaves is a ceramic artist based in Prince Edward County.  His current work includes the Haptic Vessels series, in which he is exploring the tactility of surfaces developed through accretion, settling and deflection.

These vessels are formed by coiling, scraping, and carving a coarse stoneware body which then receives multiple glaze layers to build surface depth.

Greaves' work references change and complexity that develops over multiple timescales—the slowness of coiling and carving, the sudden melting and hidden transformations of the kiln, and the geologic longevity of the resulting object.

Originally trained as an architect at Yale University, Bill studied ceramics at Alex Yeung Studio in Toronto from 2017-2019 before setting up his studio near Consecon, Ontario, in 2020.
