About Sprouted Vessel

This neutral coloured contemporary handmade vase was inspired by nature.

The eclectic ceramic work of Bill Greaves is admired and collected both here in Canada and the US. The Canadian artist creates unique pieces from coarse stoneware clay.
The organic bulb-shaped base of this vase and the crown of vertical root-like structures are hand-coiled and hand-carved, a process that allows for the attractive visible texture. The crackle pattern is a natural product of the glazing that shrinks and bubbles up when it's fired in the kiln.

“Clay…it’s literally ground-down rock, and it took millions of years for it to form. That’s a huge continuum of time that humans manipulate for a moment.” Bill Greaves

William Greaves received a Master of Architecture from Yale University and was a practising architect in NYC for several years before he became an artist full-time.
He studied ceramics at Alex Yeung Studio in Toronto from 2017 to 2019. His studio was set up in 2020 and is near Consecon, Ontario. His work is shown here in Ontario and in NYC.
