About TTH #14
This contemporary colourful geometric vertical painting is by Burton Kramer. The striking artwork of Canada’s Burton Kramer, a much celebrated and influential graphic designer is inspired by music. These unique pieces feature geometric shapes that appear to emulate musical notes on a scale. The TTH series in acrylic paint on aluminum are long, vertical compositions. The shapes are defined by form and colour—a fresh, modern palette of mint green, sky and cornflower blue, pink with accents in cranberry red. Kramer’s visual language is reminiscent of the 20th century European painter, Wassily Kandinsky renowned for his experiments with colour and music.
“Instrumentally produced, multi-layered sound offers the listener sensory pleasure. In my paintings, colour and forms, integrated in a structure-based composition, provide a similar pleasure.” Burton Kramer
“Kramer’s work can best be described as a collection with active, visual powers that enchants the viewer through geometric shapes, and these are just coming from the mighty hands of a modernist designer and artist.” Excerpt from The Moderns: Mid-Century American Graphic Design by Steven Heller and Greg D’Onofrio Abrams
