About Corpheum XVIII

This striking blackened corten steel sculpture was created by Claude Millette. Four elegantly curved columns of steel are joined at various angles and appear to float in mid-air. The Quebec artist is known for his imaginative abstract work that plays with the viewer’s perception of balance and imbalance.

“The opposition between solid and flexible takes on its full meaning from the fact that the beams I make for my work, unlike the framework of buildings, are usually curved and appear to grow. It’s like what happens in dance, energy comes from tensions or polarities.” Claude Millette

Born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Millette studied at the École de sculpture de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and apprenticed with sculptors Robert Poulin and Jordi Bonet. Millette's works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. He has received commissions for public artworks in Quebec, Russia, France, Costa Rica and Mexico. His works have been acquired by several museums (Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal; Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Quebec City), and stands in numerous municipal and private collections.
