About Le Capteur

This striking sculpture is by Claude Millette known for creating distinctively unique modern artwork. The Quebec sculptor favours using polished stainless steel—this piece called le capteur (French for ‘sensor’) is geometric in form. Atop a tall, imposing ‘beam’ sits three cubes in various sizes—two solid and one an open frame that appear to be attached at precarious angles to one another. Millette is fascinated by the concept of balance and often creates pieces that challenge our perception.

“…the beams I make for my works, unlike the framework of buildings, are usually curved and growing in shape. Like what happens in dance, energy comes from tensions or polarities.” Claude Millette

Claude Millette was born in Saint-Hyacinthe Quebec. He studied at the École de sculpture de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and apprenticed with revered sculptors Robert Poulin and Jordi Bonet. Millette's works have been commissioned for many public art projects and have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Mexico.
