About Classic Cone 23-062

The large pine cone sculptures by Floyd Elzinga have become beloved and collected classics that now grace many public venues in the country. The Canadian artist has acquired a reputation as a superb craftsman—each pine cone is hand forged; its dynamic form mirrors the natural shape. This large pine cone is made from corten steel and features a rich rust-coloured patina. Suitable for display indoors or out.

“I love the way light plays off the surface." Floyd Elzinga

“Much like a painter with a brush, Elzinga uses metal-working machinery to create textures and strokes, with a color palette determined through means of polishing, burnishing, sanding, grinding, rusting, or heating.”
Paul McAtomney, Landscape Architects Network

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste and in Hanoi he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
