About Universal Stopper 2023

This fun and fanciful large outdoor pop art sculpture is by Floyd Elzinga. This piece is a massive corten steel drain plug attached to a long polished stainless chain. The form is obviously inspired by the old-fashioned rubber sink/tub stoppers. The original title was affectionately known as “Drain The Swamp” which seems increasingly more poignant and profound given recent world current events in politics and the ever worsening climate change.

His sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
