About Greg Angus

(b. 1961 Burlington, ON) Greg Angus’ process is an important element to his paintings. He begins by combining melted wax with oil paint – dozens of different colours – layering them on top of one another. Using a variety of tools, chisels and knives, he strategically cuts out and removes wax from the negative areas, using the collage as a guide. By repeating the layering and scraping, he unearths the energy and visual tension signature to all of his work. This particular method of encaustic painting has been developed by the artist over a number of years, resulting in the creation of a unique visual culture. His use of colours, how they vibrate off one another is paramount. Indeed the hyper-psychedelic presentation of galactic photography to the mapping of the processes of the human body.
