Biography
Jason Kimes is an American sculptor whose work explores the relationship between the human figure and physical space. Employing a diverse range of materials and techniques, including cast metals, welded steel, and wood, Kimes creates figurative sculptures that invite viewers to reflect on presence, emotion, and personal connection.
Kimes received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University in 2005. Since completing his studies, he has realized numerous outdoor art commissions and participated in exhibitions throughout the United States.
Central to Kimes’ practice is the use of the human form, either explicitly rendered or implied through negative space. This familiar three-dimensional shape establishes an immediate connection with viewers, encouraging personal interpretation and emotional engagement. His sculptures are often designed for both indoor and outdoor settings, interacting dynamically with light and their surrounding environments.
Kimes’ work is held in private and corporate collections across the United States and Canada. In addition to his studio practice, he supports the advancement of contemporary sculpture through active participation in sculpture-focused organizations. He lives and works in Laurel, Mississippi.
