About Charlot

Charlot is a table-top sculpture of a regal adult female cow sitting, her beautiful face turned towards the viewer, legs tucked under her massive body. Forged from bronze, the sculpture is patinated with layers of colour in black and brown which gives it a textured and realistic coat. Inscribed with a signature, date and edition number 7 of 10.

“I wanted to recreate the images from my childhood, the presence and the animation of the animal. The way I felt it then and the way I still feel it. To capture the spirit of the animal. I wanted to be faithful to my memory.” Joe Fafard

Fafard was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1981 and received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Regina, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The National Gallery of Canada with the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina mounted a retrospective exhibition of the artist’s work that toured to six venues between 2007 and 2009. Fafard's artworks are held in major museum collections including the National Gallery of Canada.
